5 WAYS TO CREATE MEMORABLE FAMILY GAME NIGHTS

It’s time to get the dust off Candyland, grab those playing cards from the drawer and put them to use building something that’s more important than we sometimes realize.

PICK A DAY

The first step is to pick a day that works for the entire family. Mark this day as a special and recurring day for everyone to come together for good ol’ family fun. Make this day extra special by cooking a certain meal or having certain snacks that eventually become a staple to game night.

If at all possible, keep this day a priority by not over-planning or canceling it due to something else. If/When something comes up, kindly (or excitedly) respond with, “Sorry, but that’s our family game night!” This could possibly plant a seed in someone else to start incorporating this tradition in their home.

CHOOSE CERTAIN GAMES TO PLAY

Take into consideration your unique family dynamic and choose games that accommodate everyone. If you have a big family, choosing games that allow for teams sometimes work best. For varying ages, select a few games that keep the attention of the busybody littles. A few family-style games to consider are:

NO ELECTRONICS ALLOWED

As hard as it may be, putting a “no electronics” ban on family game night will be well worth it. This will keep the kiddos (and you) from being distracted by scrolling Facebook and Instagram. If you must… snap a game night picture, post it, then turn your phone off (or on vibrate) to make getting on it much less tempting.

Don’t forget to turn off the television, too!
