Family Audiobooks on the Go: An Adventures in Odyssey Review

Family audiobooks are great to have in the car when taking day trips with your children, so I was delighted to receive a copy of a new Adventures in Odyssey audiobook from Focus on the Family.

A few weeks ago our family went on a day trip to my Grandmother’s house to celebrate her 87th birthday. The drive time is about two hours one way; this was the perfect distance to listen to Adventures in Odyssey (AIO #63) Up in the Air.

After getting everyone settled into their seats and all of the seat belts have been buckled, we head out onto the open road. Once everyone quiets down, I pop in the cd to the player. At first, my granddaughter, who is only 20 months old, was sure we were going to watch a “wovie” and was slightly confused when the story started but nothing was playing on the DVD screen. After a minute or two though, she sat quietly listening as the story progressed. I glanced back in the rearview mirror a few times to see her smiling or nodding her head to the story.

Sometimes during our road trips, we encounter areas that have limited stereo stations. Unfortunately, the choices that are available aren’t exactly kid-friendly. Having these family audiobooks from Focus on the Family is an excellent alternative to listening to the stereo, one that I do not have to quickly turn the channel because of inappropriate humor from radio announcers or lewd lyrics of the songs that are played.

Adventures in Odyssey family audiobooks are educational and entertaining!

As if the entertainment aspect of these kids audiobooks, wasn’t enough to make our two-hour drive even more enjoyable; the character-building and educational aspect is a welcome benefit for any homeschool mom. In the six stories on the “Up in the Air” two cd set, there are entertaining and intriguing lessons in the meaning of true friendship and integrity. These stories prompted a great opportunity for “educational” conversation; especially for my 7-years old son, he would ask what certain words meant. Mostly though, he would listen intently and giggle at the sound effects.
