In previous years, I have designed the majority of our curriculum to be studied together. While both boys enjoy hands-on learning, they have other differing learning preferences. Everett likes worksheets and workbooks, Eli not so much. Eli wants most of his work to be on the computer or iPad, Everett gets bored with it quickly. So this year, I am separating some of the boys’ curriculum, which will mean more planning for me but they will have their lessons and learning experiences that are more suited to their learning styles.

After completing all of the studies in our Morning Time Basket, the boys will have the following subjects to complete as independently as possible: Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, & Science.
Eli (12 Years Old/7th Grade)
For Language Arts: Lots of reading. Eli’s reading isn’t quite on target for a seventh grader, according to the reading assessment through MobyMax; he is currently on a 6.3 level. He will be reading his way through the Christian Heroes: Then and Now series, using note-booking pages & copy-work for handwriting and comprehension. Eli will also be completing one or two lessons each week from DailyGrammar.
For Math: Teaching Textbooks. Eli is starting out with level 4 for review. I am hoping that he will move to level 5 before the end of the school year.
For Social Studies & Science: Geography: A Literature Approach (A Guide to using the Holling C. Holling books) by Rea Berg as the spine to his geography studies. As an added learning bonus, the lessons in this guide also include some history and science as well. There are nine to ten weeks of lessons for four different Holling C. Holling books in the guide. Each lesson includes several different activities to complete after reading two or three chapters at a time.
Everett (7Years Old/1st Grade)
Everett will be using a combination of Learn to Read from All in One Homeschool, McGuffey Readers, and the McGuffey App to continue learning to read. We will also be doing lots of copy-work for handwriting.
For Math: Math 1 from EasyPeasy All in One Homeschool.
So all of this looks pretty planned out and an eclectic mix of curriculum, there are plenty of opportunities to include living books, and there are even some unit study components but where is the unschooling that I wanted to include?
There will be plenty of opportunities on our off-grid homestead for unschooling. Raising livestock, growing a garden, building a house, hunting wild game, archery…just to name a few.
Have you planned out your homeschool curriculum yet?

We loved TT math and I so loved FIAR when my kidss were young. Such fun. We were never strictly CM, but used a lot of her principles and definitely living books. Pinned this for my CM followers! Thanks for sharing at Fridays Unfolded!
